Chapter Twenty fourth:
The sky was not clearly visible and fog had covered the surroundings. It had been two months since all of them returned from Paris. Everything was back to normal. Everyone was busy with their own lives and work. Jenny and Ben were back together. Since she had been Ben's support all along. She however wanted the very less of her assumption in reality. The project was being discussed and the construction site had already been finalized and tonight there was a party from the Browns in their house.
''It's so cold outside, its damn freezing.'' Jenny handed her coat to the butler.
Ben always avoided this house, but then he thought for the one whom he had been avoiding this place these people was way too wise. She did not cared for the things that left her. She hated no one. All she gave in return was love. She was great and wise. She really was. He then decided to be like her although he could never be.
''Here he is, I'm proud of you. I was in this bloody business since I was 18, even then I couldn't imagine things that big as much as my boy did, gentleman here is my son the future of my empire.'' Dylan said raising his head so much that it seemed he was gazing at the ceiling.
Ben said nothing just greeted some men the same age as his father's.
The guests concluded only of the friends of his father and members of the board.
''After all he is your only child and who would be an heir to this gold throne than him?''. A man said among the friends of Dylan.
''How come we have never seen you before with your father where have you been?.'' This man was definitely more interested in Ben's status and wealth than the project and his status meant being single.
''Excuse me sirs I must get going. Enjoy the party.'' Ben somehow managed to escape Mr Harriot. His father's most close friend.
Harriot eyed Ben again and then took a glass from the table.
''I must say Dylan If I had seen your son before I would have married him to my daughter.''
''You still can Harriot. Isn't she still single?'' Dylan asked the waiter to refill his glass.
''She's divorced. Has two kids. You won't prefer such a match.''
''I am not among those fathers who prefer matches for their children. My son would marry whom he likes and wants. It's his life.''
Harriot became silent and eyed Jenny carefully.
''It's so boring here.'' Ben came to the bar where Jenny was thinking the same.
''You read my mind.'' she agreed and drank the last drop of martini from the glass.
''I will go now, Ben goodbye.'' ''No wait, lets go out somewhere.'' Ben said placing the glass on the bar.
''Where?'' Jenny had now taken her coat.
''A pleasant place.''
Just as they were about to leave Carla stopped Ben seizing his arm and taking him away from Jenny.
"Come on now don't embarrass us anymore. You've had your life your way hanging with whom ever you want. It's okay who you are with at nights but remember when you are in front of the people you must be with the ones who suit your financial status." She narrowed her eyes Jenny was close. She felt no embarrassment with that. Jenny didn't gave a expression she was calm. Ben was angry as hell. His face turned red and, "Now you listen to me Carla. I've been dealing with your shit all the time. I never come here you know why. Because I cannot stand that in the place of my mother now stands a woman who doesn't even have a family tree. You care about whom I am with or without then let me tell you, the worst kinds are more integrated than you are. They might come with a cost of their companionship but you, you eat my father's wealth like bloody vampire. As you call Jenny unsuitable she has a noble background and she built this project whose wealth you will eat again. That is called blue blood . Next time I'll come here and either you will no longer be a Brown or be dead."
He threw the glass of champagne on the floor attracting the people's attention and took Jenny's arm and went straight out.
Carla was standing there cursing him.
They had a great dinner. The restaurant had a flyer on the counter about the ballet of the ''Swan Lake''.
''I love the swan lake ballet, the story always thrilled me.'' she said with her hands tucking her chin.
''Then we'll go to see it if you like it that much.''
''Of course. Did you heard from Taylor and Tina?''
She knew what Ben didn't. ''What''. he asked in curiosity
''They are expecting a child. This was supposed to be a surprise for everyone even for me I just know because I was with her when the doctor called.'' she justified the shocked Ben.
''I was the one she used to tell everything first and now you have taken my place.'' he joked however it was clear that he was jealous.
''I didn't mean anything that would upset you but its a woman thing after all. You are acting as if she had delivered a child and kept you from seeing it. What's the fuss about? Even Rachel doesn't know. They said that they would invite us all at their place and then they will announce it.''
''I'm sorry.'' he took her hand. He knew that Jenny was a gem but when it came to annoying her she would shut herself from him and what happened before should never happen again.
''I'm tired let's go.''
Christina was not ready for such a news. She was mixed, one thing that was troubling her that Taylor might not approve of this and then work would get affected. She had just taken control of things after their long trip from Louisville and now this. Second she was happy.
When she told him he got up and picked her up and began running like a insane person.
He took her direct to Rachel and announced the news. When Tina explained her two reason she chuckled. ''When I was expecting you I was working a feverish shift for a company. Your dad handled the work and made me just sit and eat routine. Everything makes its place when it arrives dear. We can not plan everything.''
''Exactly. To hell with the work. This is most important thing and you must take care of it nothing else.'' Taylor was going crazy with joy.
For Tina the days were boring. She would do nothing all day. All her tasks were being taken care off well. She would call Jenny and Ben and even Rachel would visit her often.
But it was hard for her. Then she started coming to work as the days were too early to sit aback and do nothing. Taylor first disagreed but then he gave in.
Then the months passed and a baby girl was welcomed in the family.
''This is the greatest joy in the world.'' Taylor held her in his arms for the first time.
''Welcome to the world Elizabeth Rachel.'' Tina named the child.
Taylor looked at her in disbelief. ''You just named my daughter after my mother?''
''I named her after our mothers.'' she took the child in her arms.
In a matter of minutes the room was flooded with relatives. Ben who was the eagerest held her and kissed her. ''This is so cool Tins.'' ''Be gentle Ben she a child a new born baby.'' Jenny was still sure it was not a good idea of giving the child to Ben to hold.
''I'm certain that he would take care of her.'' Tina who was lying in the bed said.
It was just great. It was the happiest day of their lives. Tina was watching all of them with tears in her eyes. A picturesque moment.
Little Liz had made her special place in everyone's life. All of them would be at Taylor and Tina's house in the evening to be with Liz. Liz the short name was given to her by Ben. Liz was attached to him so much that Tina would give Liz to her whenever she would be uncontrollable.
''Say goodbye to you mom dad and you and I will have a great time together.'' Ben waved Liz's small hand at her parents. They both had to go to a gathering and Ben was the ultimate baby sitter as Liz would not be comfortable with anyone other than Ben.
Jenny was happy that Ben was happy but at times he would seem so distant. He would be close to her now that they were living together but at times it would seem as if he was a complete stranger.
Jenny was a tough woman. She would never give in that easily on anything and now this dealt a subtle matter. He was all he had. Jenny hated this truth but Ben had not only affected her heart but her life.
He had proposed to her before Liz was born and Christina had persuaded Ben for it.
Jenny looked at the ring given to her by Ben with suspicion. Because she feared. Her fear was developing over time. A fear that something bad might happen and the relationship that she had built with time and love would break in a wink of an eye.
She would convince herself that everything would be great and all the thoughts would disappear only to be more the next day.
''Tomorrow is a big day.'' Tina removed her jewellery and placed in her box.
''Every day is a celebration with you then what about tomorrow?'' he was in the bathroom.
''Time makes men forget. You already have forgotten our marriage.'' she hugged her from behind.
''Of course tomorrow is a big day. It's been three years seems like yesterday to me.'' he kissed her.
''It is our second anniversary after Liz's birth it would be massive something no one's ever imagined and I would give you something which would be a ... no its a surprise.''his gaze was mysterious.
''You already have given me so much, what can I desire more.'' she was about to leave the room when Taylor grabbed her hand.
''Stay where are you going?'' he was uneasy. ''What's wrong are you alright?'' she touched his forehead to make sure he was fine. ''I'm fine just I don't want you out of my sight.'' ''I'm going to check on Liz.'' she said and began to walk when Taylor came with her and brought Liz with him.
''She'll wake you up a million times.'' Tina said when he picked up the two year old Liz sleeping over her father's shoulder. ''Let her she's my daughter she has every right.''
''How about I gift you another sweet child?'' Taylor joked.
''I'm completely happy and fine with one.'' she kissed him.
They slept together the three of them with a careless good sleep.
''What's this? Don't tell me that again you want us I mean you and I both are going to watch the ballet. Last time you promised and we were not able to go. If you remember exactly it was almost two years ago.'' she complained lying down on the bed.
''Does it really matters all the ballets are the same. Even if Tchaikovsky composed one.'' he was reading a book.
''Yeah they are all the same then why did you bother with the tickets anyway.'' Jenny was gazing at the ceiling. Then suddenly she remembered something and turned towards Ben.
''Christina and Taylor are having a grand anniversary and she wants us to help and I know you know but remember we have to go there early.''
''I'll be there as soon as I finish work.'' he looked at Jenny for a moment and she was laughing.
''I told you we won't make it to Swan lake again. The timings will collapse.''
''We can manage. You can go there early first thing in the morning, I will finish work we'll meet at the theater and then we'll go back. How's that.'' he was smiling on his stupid plan.
''I will make it but you won't and I'm ready to bet on it.'' she turned her face towards the other side avoiding Ben's face. She didn't know why she was being a girl all of a sudden. The woman things which she always avoided and designed herself as such as she was not woman. Until she found she had a heart and that heart knew how to beat and how to love. How to mend, break and feel the pain. Feel the love and happiness.
''Why do you always treat me such. That I don't give this relation any effort and it is you who's been doing every effort. You know what lets get married. Like this at least you'll have my allegiance.'' he closed the book and turned off the lamp.
Jenny's eyes were still wide open in the dark.
''Marriage is not something related to allegiance Ben. Its commitment not politics.'' she got up and went to the bathroom.
Ben was acting as if he was asleep but he couldn't sleep.
Over two years of their being together they had become more distant.
