Two hours later Ben and Tina were sitting in the famous cafe of their neighborhood. In a city such as LA,only this place was their favorite because of its view. All the houses seemed nearer and the busy life away. Taking sip from his coffee Benjamin Brown looked at his best and only childhood friend and asked'' What are your plans after the convocation?'' ''Haven't thought about it what about you? I'm thinking about a holiday.'' Tina said thinking about a forest picnic. ''Don't tell me that forest picnic is on your mind.'' Ben just read her mind.''Yeah we are no longer children to play there.''Tina said remembering one part of her childhood.
It was her 8th birthday and she convinced Ray and Rachel she would go picnic in the woods. The didn't give their approval at first but after her cuddling sweet and warm they had to give in. She also invited Ben but things were always difficult for him. His family was never comfortable under one roof. His father Dylan Brown was a rich successful man and American whereas his mother a Parisian woman. They married but the marriage only lasted three years that too with Helena living in Paris all the time. When Ben turned two his parents got divorced. His upbringing was taken good care off by his responsible father who won custody on legal terms however there was always a blank space in his life even till now. It was at times when he would forget all about this empty space when he would come over to Tina's place. Rachel treated him with the motherly love he knew nothing about. He had forgotten his mothers face and her voice. ''I'll tell daddy to drop me off to your place tomorrow.'' Ben said excited about a family picnic. '' Okay and don't forget to bring you star wars toys.'' ''Okay can't wait for tomorrow.''
All set in for a complete family picnic. Ray made one big canopy and arranged the chairs and tables. Tina and Ben already started with their frisby. Rachel cooked lunch and the children would play till the lunch was ready. Evening would draw close and Ray would prepare a nice fire cuddling both children in a blanket around him, his wife on his other side. Ben would cuddle to Rachel and Tina to his father and a horror story was always demanded.
''It scares me Tina no , no horror story.''
''Come on daddy Ben is a coward but whenever we come to the woods you always tell us a horror story go on daddy the witch one.''
''No.'' Ben yelled and cuddled to Rachel.
''Okay both of you today I will tell a different one. One that both of you would like and would learn from.''
Both nodded.
''In a faraway town lived a beautiful little girl and her naughty little brother. The girl was wiser and her brother was not that wiser and always committed mistakes. Mistakes too many led him one day out of the classroom but he did not mind it and went to play with some naughty children outside the school. They were not good children and.......''
''They have fallen asleep my dear Ray.'' Rachel said carrying Ben.
''Surely they have even without listening.''
''They had been playing from afternoon what else did you expect?''
The sun shined and the summer breeze took a height she transported herself back to the present.''I think I'll go on a date with some girl I met yesterday. She's weird but it'll do.''Ben peaked at Tina from the back of the coffee cup.''Really it should've been better , lets go then and prepare you for your date. By the way which number is this one.'' ''15th I think or 14th let me think.'' he said while paying off the check. ''Ben you really should care after yourself. These girls do not deserve you.'' Tina was walking from the cafe door to her car on the pathway Ben met with someone,'' Hey Ben where have you been I was literally finding you all day.'' Cassy one of his acquaintance stopped him. Tina glanced at Ben shouting ''Are you coming or not I won't be waiting for you.'' ''I'm coming.'' Just as Tina turned back she collided with something. He was tall and was a man of early thirties. Coffee spilled on both of them but mostly on Tina. She bowed to grab her bag and tissue from it to wipe of the coffee. ''Are you mad man. You should see where you are walking!' ''Of course its my fault I'm sorry I should've seen.'' The tall man said. wiping away coffee from his fine suit. He had brown hair trimmed perfectly. A broad face and deep blue piercing eyes a perfect body with great suit. He was very good looking. ''Taylor Parker.'' He offered his hand to Tina for her to grab and get up , ''Oh great now we are interviewing each other. Did I asked your name? Next time Mr Parker mind your surroundings''. She got up herself '' Nice to meet you Miss Angry head.'' ''Hey'' Ben came hurried escaping Cassy. ''What happened?''. ''Nothing, I met some weirdo who happened to ruin my clothing can we go now Ben or will you go on with this stupid wretched ex of yours? ''Gosh Tina what happened. Taylor was still there looking at both of them but this time from a distance.
''He is still looking at us. Come on let's get out of here. I must have seen some jinx's face today that all my day had to get spoiled like this.''
''Well it was me you saw, am I jinx Tina?''
''Shut up idiot and drive I feel so sticky with this coffee just get me home.''
''Was it Cassy again?'' Tina said looking at Ben who was texting someone on his phone.''Yeah its getting harder to get her off. You know last night I saw her with some other guy from college. She's so cheap.'' Ben was frustrated from Cassy.
''You are always after cheap sters. Come on get a break. Find a nice girl with who you can be happy and if possible settle down someday get over your teenage self.''
''You know something, sometimes you sound just like my dad.''
They both laughed.
Cassy was the hot cake of college. She had been dating almost every guy in college. She was that kind of a girl who would hang with guys as long as they were preferred most wanted. After that she had no appetite to swallow another heart. Cassy was tall slim, the guy's most desired ideal picture in reality. Her clothes were always extreme short trying to show off as much of skin as much she could. Tina hated her as she was the most cheap show off girl she and Ben would always say. Things became tensed between Tina and Ben when Cassy tried to get her hand on Ben. Ben was her last and only left over target. Tina overheard her conversation with her two parasitic friends, ''Ben is only a name on a list. He'll be off soon but for now I need him as my financial status is poor and Dad has blocked my credit cards.''
The moment Tina got out of there she called Ben and told him all that she had heard and much to her dismay Ben said,'' Let her have some money as long as she's nifty and serviceable after that I know how to get rid off such women. Believe me Ti..'' Tina hung up on him because she hated Ben's motivation. It was the most disgusting thing he could ever say.
Days went by and Tina did not talked to him and he used to call her a million times. She tried to avoid him in college as much as she could. She changed her class because of him and as soon as the college was over she was the first person to leave the gate. Then one day she was watching television when Karen opened the door because she was going home. She saw Ben standing at the door and signed to her not to say a word so he would sneak in without telling Tina. Karen signed to him back ,'' I have no part in any of this remember.''. It was all happening in the entrance where Tina could not overhear them. Karen went out and Ben sneaked in. Then she closed the door behind her. ''Bye Nanah.'' Tina said loudly. Ben got scared from her voice but somehow managed to hide at the back of the door. Then he went into the kitchen and prepared two glasses of beer. Then he tried to imitate the voice of Karen. ''Tina dear will you like a beer?'' ''Is that you Nanah? I though you left. Who was at the door then?'' Tina was in her pajamas and a t shirt as she was in no mood to go anywhere and was enjoying herself in the living room. Rachel was not at home. ''Yes bring me some beer.'' Tina said after a moment. Ben brought the tray and as Tina looked at him she gasped for a moment. ''You moron you were imitating Karen's voice. How dare you came in front of me. You disgusting person.'' Tina said in such anger her face's color turned red. ''Calm down Tina.'' Ben sat beside her and she was very angry. ''Listen sweet heart, I promise you that Cassy is no harm.'' She was quiet and then he became quiet too. They both focused on the movie. Tina was watching ''Bringing up Baby''. ''I really wish you could get someone nice. A girl worth having you.'' Ben looked at her and she at Ben. That was the most awkward moment for Tina and she quickly changed the subject. ''I guess the world needs more Cary Grant movies.'' Ben laughed at that.
Present:
''Listen Ben, you promised me that Cassy would be no harm. Now make her one and get over. Take care of yourself. I would not bear if anything bad ever ever happens to you. Though it might take me to face women like Cassy. You understand?'' Ben got out of the car and nodded. He really had taken Cassy lightly. Tina reversed her car and took the road to home. Today was a different day for her. For something new awaited her.
